ICF Level 1 Path
All ICF credentialing levels have the same basic requirements:
Education, Experience, Mentoring, and a Performance Evaluation. Each credentialing level has specific requirements in each of those areas.
LEVEL 1 PROGRAM
CTA’s Level 1 Program includes all the required training, education, mentoring, and performance evaluation to apply for an ACC credential. Participants who complete the coursework and activities listed below will receive documentation from Coach Training Alliance showing they have successfully completed the Level 1 Program.
EDUCATION
Certified Coach Program
The Certified Coach Program includes 60 contact hours of coach-specific training satisfies the Level 1 education requirements.
EXPERIENCE
100 Hours
Aspiring ACC candidates must complete at least 100 hours of coaching experience (75 hours of which are paid or barter with at least eight clients and at least 25 of these hours must occur within 24 months before applying for the credential). CTA facilitates reciprocal peer coaching so candidates can complete these experience hours.
MENTORING
10 hours of Mentor Coaching
Group Mentor Coaching
Group Mentor Coaching satisfies seven (7) of the required 10 hours.
Individual Mentor Coaching
Individual Mentor coaching satisfies the three (3) additional one-on-one hours.
Together, these offerings satisfy the Level 1 mentoring requirement.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Through the performance evaluation, candidates demonstrate their ability to coach at the ACC level (or higher). This is administered by Coach Training Alliance and is the final step in our Level 1 Program.

Group Mentor Coaching
APPLYING TO ICF USING THE LEVEL 1 CREDENTIALING PATH
Congratulations! Once you have completed all the required activities (Education, Mentoring, Experience and Final Performance Evaluation), CTA will provide you with documentation showing you have successfully completed the “Level 1 – Certified Coach Program”. ACC Candidates applying to ICF can use the “Level 1 Path” and will upload your certificate to your application. RECEIVING YOUR ICF ACC CREDENTIALS AND DESIGNATION
Prior to receiving the ACC designation from ICF, all applicants must pass the ICF Credentialing Exam. The ICF Credentialing Exam is administered by ICF after your application has been submitted.
